Does anyone have a good sugar cookie recipe?

Question: Does anyone have a good sugar cookie recipe?

(Posted by: Sara on 2009-12-25 16:08:16)

I want one that won't spread at all so my sugar cookies come out good. My snowflakes end up looking like lumpy flowers. I bought the ready- made store bought mix because I figured it would have been tested and work well, but it didn't. What recipe do you use and know works. I don't want a random one you found on google and haven't tried, I want one that works for you :)

Ingredients 2 1/ 3 cups plus 2 tablespoons (11-ounces) all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 3/ 4 cup (1 1/ 2 sticks; 6-ounces) unsalted butter 1/ 2 cup plus 2 tablespoons (4-ounces) granulated sugar 1 large egg 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract Directions In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Set aside. In the bowl of a standing mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, combine the butter and sugar and beat on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla and beat until combined. Add the flour mixture in 2 batches, scraping down the bowl after each addition. Beat until the dough just comes together, being careful not to over mix. Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Place the ball of dough between 2 pieces of parchment paper and roll out to 1/ 4-inch thick. Keeping the dough in the parchment, transfer to a cookie sheet and place in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Cut out the cookies in the desired shapes and place on a half-sheet pan lined with parchment paper or an un-greased nonstick cookie sheet, at least 1-inch apart. Transfer to the freezer and chill for at least 15 minutes or until they are firm. Bake until the cookies are light golden brown, about 10 minutes. Let cookies cool completely on the sheets before decorating. *Cook's Note: They will still be soft when they come out of the oven and may break or become misshapen if they are moved off the sheets before cool

OLD-TIME SUGAR COOKIES 3 cups sifted flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/ 2 teaspoons salt 1 cup butter 1 1/ 2 cups sugar 2 large eggs, or 4 egg yolks 1 tablespoon milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or grated lemon rind 2 tablespoons sugar 1 or 2 teaspoons cinnamon Sift 1 1/ 2 cups of flour with baking powder and salt onto a sheet of wax paper and set aside. Beat butter until light and creamy, gradually adding sugar. Beat in the eggs or egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add milk and vanilla or lemon rind. With mixer on lowest speed, gradually add the sifted flour mixture and enough of the remaining 1 1/ 2 cups flour to make a workable dough, but not too much (the less the better). Chill the dough for 1 hour or for up to 24 hours. Stir together 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 or 2 teaspoons cinnamon. When the dough is chilled roll and cut into shapes, and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar. Place on parchment paper lined cookie sheets and bake in a preheated 400°F oven for 9 or 10 minutes or until cookies are lightly golden. To make a crackled sugar cookie, roll the dough into small balls, then roll in the sugar cinnamon mixture. Bake as directed.

Chilling the dough is really important, thats what makes the cookies not spread only use a little at a time while rolling, and keep the rest in your fridge, not on the counter until ready to use allrecipes.com/ Recipe/ The-Best-Rolled-Sugar-Cookies/ Detail.aspx

So that the cookies will not spread to the pan, be sure to put the cookie dough in the ref to cool down the dough. it is easier to prepare if the dough is cold.be sure to let the cookies cool completely before you remove it from the pan. Try searching yeolesweets on the web. They have a lot of cookie choices/ variations for inspiration.
